Scrubs are great for removing dead skin, for softening your skin, and for brightening your complexion. Commercial products often contain chemicals and preservatives that aren’t natural, so if you make your own scrub or mask, you’ll ensure that only fresh and healthy ingredients come in contact with your skin. The following 6 recipes for facial scrubs and masks use ingredients found in your food pantry and refrigerator, and they take just minutes to make, so treat your face to something special without burning a hole in your wallet.

Honey-Lemon Face Scrub

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoons lemon juice

1 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Mix ingredients in a bowl until creamy. Apply to face. Rinse with a damp, steaming hot washcloth.

Baking Soda Scrub

This scrub helps eliminate blackheads.

2 tablespoons baking soda

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

4 tablespoons water

Mix ingredients in a bowl until creamy. Apply to face. Rinse with a damp, steaming hot washcloth.

Coffee Scrub

Coffee is an excellent exfoliant, boots collagen production, and stimulates skin.

2 tablespoons ground coffee (from the can or already brewed coffee)

2 tablespoons olive oil

Mix the ground coffee and olive oil in a bowl until smooth. Apply to face. Rinse with a damp, steaming hot washcloth. Be sure to use a strainer on your sink’s drain to prevent it from becoming clogged with the coffee mixture.

Avocado Mask for normal to dry skin

1 avocado

1 tablespoon plain yogurt

1 tablespoon honey mix

Remove the skin and pit from the avocado. Mash. Add yogurt and honey and mix in a bowl until creamy. Apply a thin layer of the mixture to your face and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with a damp, steaming hot washcloth.

Oatmeal Mask for oily skin

1/2 cup hot water (not boiling)

1/3 cup oatmeal

2 tablespoons plain yogurt

2 tablespoons honey

1 egg white

In a bowl, add oatmeal and water. Wait 3 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 egg white. Blend until creamy. Apply a thin layer of the mixture to your face and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with a damp, steaming hot washcloth. Be sure to use a strainer on your sink’s drain to prevent it from becoming clogged with the oatmeal mixture.

Mayonnaise Mask for normal to dry skin

1/3 cup mayonnaise

Apply a thin layer of the mayonnaise to your face, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with a damp, steaming hot washcloth.
