Casual Tops for School

teen sweater (400x400)This year I am obsessed with long cardigans, flannel button downs, and over-sized sweaters.  If you haven’t noticed, I like my clothes to be comfy.  The other great thing about all of these tops is that you can wear them with a lot of stuff.

My favorite outfit so far this year had been a pair of leggings with and plain black swoop neck t-shirt, and a long comfy knit sweater cardigan.  I wore it with combat boots and a scarf.  The sweater was a cream color  and it made the outfit dress code appropriate, in my school if you want to wear leggings your butt has to be covered.

Another very cute version of this outfit is switching the sweater out for a large plaid flannel button down.  You can leave it open in the front so it doesn’t look like you’re wearing a sack, and when you get hot simply tie it around your waist.  If you like you can wear a scarf with it, but it all depends on how big the scarf is.

Over-sized sweaters are great for lazy days when you still want to look cute.  With leggings you don’t have to deal with the discomfort of jeans, and giant sweaters are comfy enough to sleep in.  Throw on a few long necklaces and throw your hair up in a messy bun and you’re set for the day.

If you were looking to be cute, yet comfy without wearing pants, a long knit cardigan over a cute strapless dress is adorable.  You can also throw a flannel over a plain dress, too.  Although my favorite look is the classic little back dress (a school appropriate one of course) with a giant maroon sweater over it.  With combat boots you look comfy, cute, and chic.

Another way to wear these three pieces is with jeans.  Out of all three I find the over-sized sweater looks the worst with them, but it still looks good.  My favorite look is jeans with a tank top and a plaid flannel.  With a pair of brown knee high riding boots you will look fabulous.  Long knit sweaters look good with that pairing as well.

My absolute favorite thing about these three pieces is how interchangeable they are.  If you get dressed and decide at the last minute that you don’t want to wear a flannel, simply take it off and put on a long cardigan instead of having to completely change. You can also throw on an over-sized sweater instead.
