Coupons are a great way to save lots of money. Many people don’t see the value in clipping coupons each week, but the truth is that you can actually save quite a bit of money, which can equal hundreds, possibly even thousands of dollars over time. If you’re a budget-conscious person who takes pride in living well, then using coupons while shopping is crucial.

1) Make the commitment to using coupons – One of the most important things you need to do is make the decision to use coupons regularly with your purchases. Once you make that commitment, you need to stick to it. This is the only way to save serious amounts over time. If you use a coupon here and there, you’ll probably only save a few dollars a year. If you’re committed to using coupons, you must always be on the lookout for good deals and attempt to use a coupon with nearly every purchase you make.

2) Look in the right places – You won’t be able to accumulate big savings if you’re not finding any good coupons.  Look in newspapers daily, even some magazines have coupons. Sometimes there are coupons on the actual products themselves—the back of cereal boxes, etc. Nowadays some of the best coupons can be found online on sites devoted to providing coupons for consumers. Always check the manufacturer’s website for coupons.

3) Keep them organized – It might seem silly, but organizing your coupons is an important step in saving money. Get a binder and organize your coupons by expiration date and product. You may not need a certain product at the moment, but you might in the future, and with a well-organized setup of coupons you’ll always be prepared.

4) Use them regularly – Using coupons regularly is part of that commitment, and by regularly I don’t mean one coupon a week. Try to use at least one coupon with as many purchases as you can. Some devoted couponers won’t make a purchase if they don’t have a coupon for what they’re buying. This results in them saving hundreds of dollars a year.

By having several coupons ready for your weekly trip to the grocery store you’re sure to save money, and over time your savings will definitely add up.

Happy couponing!
