Day to Evening Fashion

glovesSome days, you just won’t have enough time to go home after work to take off your office wear and change into formal evening wear for a big night on the town. But that’s OK–there are ways to transform the clothes you wear to work into clothes that you can wear to a fancy restaurant, party, or theatre opening after the office closes down for business. You’ll need to become a “quick-change” artist, and you can do that by adding a little something onto or removing something from your office attire and by following these tips:

  • Wear a little black dress to work. Depending on your work place and where you’re going afterwards, the dress can be in a jersey knit, chiffon, velvet, satin or silk. At work, dress down the dress by wearing a simple cardigan or blazer. Once you’re ready to leave the office, take off the blazer or cardigan and you’ll be ready to party!
  • Wear layers–a tank top covered by a low-cut shirt and a cable knit sweater will be fine during winter. Just take off the sweater and shirt and you’ll be ready for a night out.
  • If you can wear jeans to work, wear a pair that will transition into evening wear. After work, you can add a sizzling top, heels, and some makeup glam up your look.
  • Wear a sarong to work and then transform the sarong into a dress, skirt, shawl or top for the evening.
  • Wear a simple sheath dress to work and accessorize after hours when you’re reading to hit the town.
  • Pack a small evening bag in your workday purse.
  • Pack some shiny jewelry–big earrings, bracelets, and a long, pearl necklace in your workday purse.
  • Bring a pair of gladiator sandals, sexy stiletto heels or ankle boots to work and slip them on before you head out the door.
  • Bring some makeup remover and evening makeup to work. Remove your day makeup and then put on some darker foundation, blush, bronzer, smoky eyeliner and lipstick in a bold color to glam up your look.
  • Pack a travel-size deodorant stick and some musk-filled perfume in your day bag–you’ll want to smell fresh and enticing in the evening.
  • Bring a small hairbrush or a flat comb, a travel-size hairspray bottle, and some glitzy hair accessories to work and then redo your hair in an updo or tussled hair look after you close the door to your office.
