classy dress (400x400)Royal watchers everywhere were amazed at how Kate Middleton, now known as “Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge,” took the fashion world by storm on her recent trip Down Under. Wearing sophisticated, yet chic clothing that didn’t cost an arm and a leg, the Duchess showed how a woman can look stunning in dresses purchased at her local department store. By sticking with classic styles and colors, the Duchess got a lot of fashion mileage from her wardrobe, wearing certain outfits over and over again, even at high-profile events. You, too, can look pretty and feminine in clothes available at your local department store and online. Here’s how to achieve the Duchess of Cambridge’s fashion success on a commoner’s budget:

The Duchess showed how to combine practicality and fashion flair when she donned a nautical stripe top, navy blazer and jeans. When she went sailing, the blazer came off so that she could best her husband, the ever good-looking Prince William in a race.

The secret to the Duchess’s fashion success, of course, was the cobalt and white Breton top that sells at ME+EM for $80.65. The store offers international delivery for customers abroad, but for those who prefer to shop closer to home, Forever 21 has a similar top in navy and cream for just $11.80.

One of the Duchess’s favorite designers is L.K. Bennett, whose clothes and accessories retail at Nordstrom’s and online in the US. She’s been pictured holding the designer’s signature clutch, and she looked absolutely stunning in a beautiful blue and white L.K. Bennett Lasa Poppy Print Dress. The Duchess also was spotted wearing L.K. Bennett sledge pumps in a neutral clay color.

While the dress and pumps are one-of-a-kind, you can but a similar clutch, much less expensively, at Accessorize.

Duchess Catherine and her sister, Pippa Middleton, also like clothing made by the British fashion house Hobbs, which is carried by Bloomingdale’s. Catherine dazzled the public in this pine green Persephone trench coat dress with its contemporary features that retails for $328.

The Duchess also dressed to impress in this $1,595 yellow Roksanda dress, you can achieve a similar look in this LK Bennett Lander Fitted Seamed Dress for $425.

She also managed to wow the crowds in this gorgeous Diane von Furstenberg Ikat Wrap Dress, which retails for $295. While the dress she wore sold out in just eight minutes after she was pictured wearing it, you can find similar wrap dresses at the Diane von Furstenberg website.
