Accessories are to garments what paint is to canvas. An outfit is never really complete without at least one accessory. You don’t need a ton of flashy extras, and if you have some of the accessories mentioned below, count yourself lucky. Belts, scarves, and necklaces are all terrific options to spruce up your look. The best thing about them is that you can find multiple ways to wear and style them.

Belts: A quality made leather belt is so much more than just a accessory to keep your pants on your waist; a fabulous belt can cinch cardigans or jackets and define your waistline. It’s also important to note that not all belts are made the same. Some styles were exclusively made for style purposes only. These kinds of belts include metal chain belts, thin belts, and sashes. If you’re going to wear one of these styles, it’s probably best to wear them with something that doesn’t need to be cinched or held up.

Scarves: The scarf is truly a multi-use accessory. Depending on the style and material, you can can use your scarf for just about anything. Tie it loosely around your neck, use it as a shawl to cover your shoulders, or fold it into a neat rectangle and wrap it around your head to create a headband. Stock up on several different scarves in different colors and prints.

Necklaces: A necklace is a simple accessory, yet it can be worn or used in a variety of ways. You can layer several thin necklaces to create a trendy look, wear one long strand of beads or pearls that are layered to look like you’re wearing multiples, or you can turn your favorite necklace into a handle for a clutch just by tucking the lower half of it underneath the clutch then closing it shut. This only works for chunkier or larger necklace; do not try this with dainty necklaces.
