Hats – A Necessary Accessory

Want to look and feel cool this summer? If yes, then buy several chic hats. Whether you need to run to the grocery store, or you want to hang out at the beach, a hat can keep the sun’s rays from burning your face, and from injuring your eyes.

Since July is UV Safety Month, I’m devoting my accessories article to hats this week; they not only add style to any outfit, but they help you to stay healthy as well.

A wide brimmed hat looks sexy on most women.  Who doesn’t remember all the ads on TV where a beautiful woman stands next to the ocean, wind blowing her hair wildly, her floppy hat kept on with one of her hands holding it to the top of her head?

These floppy hats come in a variety of styles and colors, including everything from bright red to black.  Nordstrom’s has a selection that should please any woman who wants to look her best on the beach, or even on a first date.  Styles range in price from approximately $30 – $90 on that particular site.

Cowboy hats also offer protection from the sun during a trip to the lake or during a day at an amusement park.  Although they don’t provide as much shade for the face as floppy hats, they still protect your eyes, nose, and cheeks quite well.  Opt for woven straw versions, as they allow for better air circulation which helps you feel cooler longer.

The Village Hat Shop sells a cute version of this type of hat for only $36.  They claim their  sur la tete Annie Oakley is a perfect hat for summer. It is “exceptionally lightweight, the hat has a wire brim for easy shaping, a ventilated body for comfort and breathability as well as one of the coolest western style woodbead and brass conch stud hatband we’ve seen in sometime.” Wear straw cowboy hats anywhere you want to look cool, casual, and trendy.

If you’re into sports, make sure to purchase the right kind of hat to protect your face while competing.  If you golf, play tennis, or participate in an extreme frisbee league, figure out which type of hat not only looks good on you, but one that will stay in place while your entire body is moving.  NIKE shows several colors and styles of hats for sports, including visors, baseball caps, and even something called the Gatsby hat.  Prices on this site are fairly reasonable.  Click here to learn more.

A final hat that I describe as “sweet” would be a great addition to any summer wardrobe.  It might be low on shade, but it has  high style.  The Juicy Couture Straw Bowler for $50 sold on the website, Revolve Clothing.com, looks sophisticated with a touch of whimsy.

The sun certainly can harm a woman’s eyes and her skin.  During UV Safety Month this July, make more than a fashion statement:  make a health statement by buying several chic hats. Look good, and feel good too.
