Holiday Scents and Colors

When shopping for beauty and skin care products at Christmastime, often you’re thinking only of the friends and family  on your gift list. But don’t forget yourself — there are lots of products out there that will make your own Christmas just a little more special, and keep the special Christmas feeling in the air a little longer, by surrounding you with holiday scents and sights.

philosophy (yes, the “p’ is lower-case) has an assortment of products in holiday-themed scents. Candy cane body scrub, eggnog shower gel (you can spike it with hot buttered rum lip gloss), gingerbread man bath products, and sweet, creamy frosting body lotion are just the beginning. If the smells give you cravings, you can whip up a batch of the treats in question by following the recipes on the product labels. philosophy also sells gift sets, because who doesn’t have a friend who loves Christmas treats? You can find their products at Sephora, Nordstrom, Macys, and other makeup and department stores, as well as at their website.  (Sorry — the Christmas cookie bath set is out of stock).

What colors say Christmas to you? Wear them on your nails! Sephora by OPI has nail polish in everything from red and green glitter (“Good Tidings We Bling!”) to Tinsel Town silver. And nail polish makes a better gift than most other cosmetics, as the colors don’t have to be matched so carefully. In fact, OPI has a gift set with 16 different miniature nail colors.

If you really want to ramp up the glitter for the holiday parties, you can try Party Eyes by NPW — stick-on “jewels” that add sparkle to your face. NPW also makes nail art and a “chubby” glitter stick you can apply anywhere on yourself. The stick’s on sale right now at Urban Outfitters, where you can also find the other NPW products.

If you’re not ready to stick fake jewels on your skin, try a little sparkle in your eye makeup with NYX Liquid Crystal Liner. This comes in every color from pink to black to a more festive gold, and is also carried by Urban Outfitters.

It’s easy to bring the scent and sparkle of Christmas into your life this season.
