woman (400x400)Selfies are a great, impromptu way to share your sizzlin’ look with the world. Whether it’s a selfie with royalty or a celebrity, you’ll want to look amazing when you say “cheese.” It’s all about great-looking skin, eyes, lips and hair and knowing how to pose to capture your most photogenic self. The following tips will help you get the look you want so that you look beautiful the next time you’re on Instagram:

  • Hair — every hair needs to be in place (unless you’re on a windswept island). After you wash and condition your hair, blow-dry it, using the nozzle attachment, which fights frizz. Tame fly-aways with a gel or serum like Sojourn Serum Smooth and finish with a texturizing spray like Wella’s Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray.
  • Skin — Use a tinted moisturizer like Aveeno Positively Radiant Skincare to give yourself bronzed skin in a jiffy.
  • Lips — Pale, dry lips are a no-no. Use a little lip balm, like Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm and then add a pretty shade of lip gloss.
  • Eyes — Make your eyes pop with eye shadow and mascara. e.l.f. Studio carries several mascara products and geometric color eye shadow palettes that feature a wide selection of colors. In the evening, go all out and curl your lashes, outline your eyes with a dark brown pencil and add a medium-tone eye shadow to your crease to create a smoky-eyed look.
  • Wear stylish sunglasses — and look like a cool celebrity. Sunglass Hut has sunglasses in a variety of trendy styles.
  • Shoot from above — If you shoot from below, the camera angle is likely to give you a double chin, make your nostrils look bigger, make your face look rounder and make your body look fatter. If you shoot from above, however, you’ll look slimmer and your chin and jaw will be better defined.
  • Smile naturally — remember a happy moment, feel the happiness and make the muscles around your mouth and eyes to work to make your smile positively sparkle.
  • Use natural lighting — Artificial lighting tends to make your face look flat, pale and yellow. Outdoor lighting is usually best at sunrise and sunset.
  • Note your background — No photo-bombing or clutter allowed. A plain wall, spectacular scenery or something calming, like a beach work best.
  • Tilt your head slightly forward and look slightly above or below the camera. To avoid a mugshot pose, don’t square yourself in front of the camera.
  • Use apps — to give your photos a professional quality.
