teen red dress (400x400)Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, not just because of the holiday, but the weather.  The chilly winds may make you quite cold, but it sets up the perfect situation for layering.  Of course, my perfect outfit may not be your perfect outfit as a lot of it will be affected by what you are doing that day, but hopefully the tips I have up my sleeve can help you out.

After starting your morning off in the comfiest pajamas you can imagine and opening your presents with your family and A Christmas Story on repeat all day long, it is time to get ready.  Keep hair and makeup on the minimal side as you will most likely spend the whole day with family.  If you are a lover of makeup, you can pick one feature to play up.  Either a fun eye and a plain lip or a colored pout and simple eyes.  As for hair, a messy bun or high pony may be easy and cute, but leaving your hair down will keep you warmer.  (Trust me it helps.)

If you are spending the day at home with family, a comfy and cute outfit is your best choice.  Leggings, an oversized sweater, and possibly a scarf create an effortless look that will keep you warm and cozy all day.  A mug of hot cocoa and some Christmas movies and your day is complete.  This also works if you are going to a family member’s house, but it will be a relaxed and casual day.  If you are headed out, the look of a sweater layered over a button down is a great one.  Not only is it cute, it will keep you warm.

If you are going out to a family holiday party, or are hosting one, a festive dress is great.  A sheath dress or a smock dress is great.  It is loose, but still creates a silhouette, perfect for a day with the family.  If you prefer a more boy con look, opt for a sweater dress.  Mock necks are totally in right now, as are midi dresses.  An olive green or heather gray midi sweater dress with a mock turtle neck will look good on anyone.  With a pair of ankle booties and a long necklace you look chic but will be incredibly comfortable.  And despite contrary belief, a midi dress actually gives the appearance of a longer frame.  By hitting you below the knee it makes your upper legs appear longer than they are, plus a longer dress gives a longer frame.

If you are going to a holiday party, you can be a bit more adventurous.  A dress is always a good choice, but you can always wear leggings and a top.  A leather skater skirt with a crushed velvet shirt is an interesting combination that will catch everyone’s eye, in a good way.  A simple dress is always a good choice, but a body con dress with leather patches will have everyone’s eyes on you.
