Recently, I joined my boyfriend on a business trip and had my own mini-vacation. While he was at the office working, I had time to spend exploring the Bay Area. On one of those “free” days, I had plans to meet an aunt for lunch, so I only had a few hours on my own. As I was meeting her at a restaurant in Santa Cruz, I decided to check out its downtown.
Santa Cruz’s downtown was beautiful. With a wide assortment of unique shops and boutiques, there was plenty of shopping to be had. From bathroom accessories to clothing to books to kitchenwares to contemporary beds, I found many stores to peruse. Fortunately for my credit card, anything I bought needed to fit in my suitcase, so there was more window shopping than purchasing.
In addition to the variety of shops, there were other places of interest. The downtown boasts of great restaurants and cafes. For entertainment, there are theatres, lounges, clubs with music and dancing, and much more. As I was in the downtown in the morning, I only got to sample a coffee and scones. However, both of these were delicious!
Of course, there is another benefit to the Santa Cruz downtown – the great weather! Being a New Englander, it was quite a treat to be able to walk outside without a coat and enjoy the feel on sunshine on my face in the month of February.
If you are going to be in the Santa Cruz area, the downtown association has an excellent Website that has all of the information you need to plan a trip. Find out what stores they have, what special event is scheduled, or simply how to get there.
