accessories (400x400)If you’re one of the more than 100 million American women who wear a size 14 or higher, with the right accessories, you can draw attention to your body’s many assets. Achieving a polished appearance is all about proportion, color, perspective, style and confidence. Think of your body as a canvas to embellish with stylish accessories that will make you look great. Accessories are the easiest (and, often, the least expensive) way to update your wardrobe and express your true self. Accessories also give you a pulled together look to create a great first impression.

Wear colors that make you look and feel happy. While it’s good to what colors that work with your skin tone and what colors accentuate positive features and diminish not-so-positive ones, colors evoke feelings, and thoughts and memories, so it’s important to wear colors that you’re comfortable with.

Wear medium- to -large scale accessories that are proportionate to your body size.

If you’re a sporty person, you’ll like functional accessories that are comfortable and easy to wear with a lot of outfits. You’ll want a versatile tote or larger bag that holds everything and that coordinates with a variety of outfits.

Choose accessories that add pizazz to your total look to balance your dramatic larger body.

Coordinate your accessories with your outfit — if you’re wearing business clothes, wear accessories appropriate for a business setting; if you’re dressing for a more casual event, dress down accessories-wise.

Avoid overdoing it — you’re not a Christmas tree, so keep it simple when it comes to accessories.

Accessories draw attention to wherever they’re placed, so choose wisely. If you have a pretty face and want to draw attention to it, focus your accessory choices on your face and neckline — earrings and scarves, for instance.

Buy quality accessories — a few well-made belts, hats, shoes, purses and jewelry items will do more for your appearance than a lot of cheap junk.

Keep your accessories in tip top shape or toss them — be sure to polish, clean and/or mend your accessories because broken ones send the wrong message.

Scarves are a beautiful way to inject color and establish focal points in your ensemble. While scarves come in a variety of shapes, a very large square scarf provides the most flexibility in terms of ways you can wear it. One way to wear a large square scarf is to drape it over one or both shoulders or to wear it as a light wrap in the evening. Be sure to choose a lightweight scarf because it will flow and add grace to your plus-size figure.
