spring makeup (400x400)Spring may be in the air, but maybe your face still has winter’s long, gray cold days written all over it. Now that the weather is turning warmer, the sun is shining and you’re packing away your winter wardrobe, it’s time to make your beautiful face ready to sparkle. You’ll need a splash of color on your cheeks, eyelids and lips, and the following tips will help you make your key facial features look their best this spring:

To add color to your eyes and make them pop:

  • Define your crease with a mid-tone brush and taupe eyeshadow.
  • Apply eyeshadow from the outside corner of the crease and lead your brush to the inside corner.
  • Use a blending brush to eliminate hard edges.
  • Then, use a contour brush to add a mid-tone eye shadow (two shades darker than your light shade) to the outer third of your eyelid.
  • Use a blending brush to eliminate hard edges.
  • To add some highlights to your eye color, use an eye shadow brush and a shade of soft iridescent eye shimmer, and starting at your lash line, add color all over the lid up to the crease by starting from the outside corner and working toward the inside corner (so that the outside corner has the most color).
  • Use a blending brush to eliminate hard edges.
  • Curl your upper eyelashes.
  • Add mascara to your upper lash line.
  • Using your detail eye shadow brush, add the mid-tone eye shadow to your lower lash line, starting from the outside corner and gliding the brush the to the inside corner so that the outside corner has the deepest color.
  • Use another detail eye shadow brush to add a shade of soft purple shadow to your lower lash line and layer it right on top of the mid-tone eye shadow.
  • Apply mascara to your lower lashes.

To add some color to pale cheeks:

  • Use a matte bronzer to define your cheeks and add color.
  • Using a bronzer/blush brush, start at the back of your cheekbones and sweep the brush forward toward the apple of your cheek. Then glide the brush back toward your ear.
  • Blend the bronzer by sweeping your bronzer/blush brush up and down on your cheeks.

  • Use a nude lip liner to line your lips by applying lip liner to the cupid’s bow on the upper lip and then extending the liner around the curves of the bow.
  • Then apply lip liner to the outer corners and move the pencil to the center bow. Then apply lip liner to the curve portion of your lower lip.
  • Apply lip liner to the outer corners and trace a path to the lower curve portion.
  • Fill in half-way toward the center of your lips to make your lip color last longer.
  • Blend your liner with a lip brush.
  • Using a lip brush, fill in your lips with lipstick in this season’s color — coral pink.
  • Blend lipstick with a lip brush.
  • Finish with a coat of sheer moisturizing lip gloss, applied with a brush (because gloss applied with a brush appears shinier).
