A few weeks ago, while looking for henna at the health food and supplements store (where else?) I came across a hair coloring line called Henna Plus and ended up taking some home to try, though it wasn't exactly what I'd been looking for. I'll say right up front that I've been mostly happy with the results -- still, if you're considering this product, there are some things you should probably know first. In no particular order:
Henna Plus doesn't actually contain henna. Strange. But they don't hide that; it says so right on the box. It does contain "9

Pencils for Your Nails and Eyes

Not being handy with a brush, I tend toward cosmetics in the shapes of writing implements. Here are a couple in pencil form that I've recently tried and liked.
The Sally Hansen 2-in-1 Nail White Pencil promises to help you "enhance the clean white look of nail tips." Of course, you've got to get it before it can be enhanced, but once your nails are scrubbed out, this is a good way to play up their clean look. It's also a quicker, easier alternative to a French manicure. The differences are that the white color goes on the inner side

Color Wheels on the Road and Other Discoveries

Cosmetics shopping is an endless process of discovery. I've learned a couple of things just in the past few weeks.
A while back, I bought some NYC Color Wheel Mosaic face powder, but I didn't use it according to directions. It comes as multiple randomly shaped pieces of "four harmonized colors [that] create the perfect single shade when blended together," fitting together in a round container. You're supposed to run your brush over the whole thing to mix the shades before brushing it on. I liked the pink shade but thought the darker ones might overwhelm my pale complexion. So

Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen

The Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen -- sounds perfect for someone with underdeveloped fine motor skills, doesn't it? Like coloring your nails with Magic Marker the way you did back in third grade when you were supposed to be making Save the Planet posters. Well, it's not quite that simple.
First off, as the name says, this pen is for nail art, not nail color. As you can tell from the fine tip, it's made to draw narrow lines and tiny dots, not cover (relatively) large areas. The Sally Hansen site says "Fine-tip pen makes it easy to control". True

Never Underestimate Accessories

An important lesson about fashion became crystal clear to me this morning while getting dressed for work. I chose black slacks, casual black flats, and a light pink boat neck sweater. After looking at myself in the mirror, I thought, "blah!" Although each part of the outfit was current and in good shape, something seemed to be missing.
In a panic to boost my style, I went to my daughter's room in search of something, anything, to make me look put together for a long day at the office. What happened was a miracle - a sparkly scarf in shades
