Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I am so excited. Thanksgiving is a tough holiday to dress for, though. The focus of the holiday is eating so you want to be comfortable, but you still want to look nice. Of course, if you will be spending the day at home with family a great idea is to dress up for photos, and then change into yoga pants for the rest of the day. That way you looked nice for when you had to, but weren’t uncomfortable for the rest of the day.
Things change when you are spending the day with your significant other. What do you wear when you are invited over to your boyfriend or girlfriend’s house? Always ask them ahead of time if their family dresses up, you don’t want to show up in jeans and have everyone else be in cocktail dresses. And it is just as awkward if the situation is flipped. If you ask and they say casual, that does not mean sweatpants. That means jeans or leggings are acceptable. Unless your girlfriend specifically says everyone wears sweatpants, don’t wear sweatpants. It is always far safer to be a little over dressed than under dressed.
If the dress is casual, opt for a pair of jeans or nice leggings with boots and a nice top. I would go for either a sweater or layers. Try to avoid anything too form fitting, not just because you will be eating all day (nobody likes a food baby), but because you want to stay more modest. Look for a top with a bit more structure.
If the dress is more of the formal side, avoid jeans and leggings. If you prefer to wear pants, opt for dress pants. If you don’t have them, black skinny jeans will do. Army green and maroon work, as well. Pair with a blouse and a jacket, along with some ankle booties. If you prefer dresses or skirts, try to stay comfortable. If you want to wear a skirt, pencil skirts look good on everyone, and can easily be dressed up or down. As for dresses, don’t pick anything too short (the same goes for skirts). Try to find a dress that flatters your shape, without being too fitted.
